Two truly rare birds: the Marchesa Luisa Casati, eclectically-dressed art patron and muse to Gabriele D’Annunzio, Erté, and Cecil Beaton; and Nancy Cunard, muse to Ezra Pound, Aldous Huxley, and Langston Hughes who shunned her shipping fortune to be a poet, activist, and publisher. For these renegade heiresses, Juyoung Kang, 
of the Dorsey at The Venetian in Las Vegas crafted a champagne tipple with an edge.

makes 1 cocktail




  • 1 oz sloe gin
  • ½ oz grapefruit juice
  • ¼ oz honey syrup
  • 4 drop cardamom bitters (we like Scrappy's)
  • 3 oz Champagne
  • grapefruit peel studded with a whole clove for garnish

  • Combine sloe gin, grapefruit juice, honey syrup, and bitters in an ice-filled shaker. Shake then strain into a short Collins glass. Top slowly with champagne. Garnish with clove-studded peel.

    *Honey syrup: stir together equal parts clover honey and hot water until dissolved. Cool before using.
