Two best friends, a ’66 Thunderbird and the wide-open road—when Thelma (Geena Davis) and Louise (Susan Sarandon) took off from their Arkansas homes the goal was an escape from their mundane lives (and the tiresome men in them). But after Louise murders a would-be rapist in a bar parking lot, the trip turns into a getaway. A road trip classic about the deep bonds of female friendship was, when it hit theaters in 1991, and still remains today, a runaway hit.
