Alice de Buhr of Fanny

Before The Runaways, The Slits, and The Go-Go’s, there was Fanny. Though largely undersung, they were the first all-female rock group to be signed to a major label and one of the most remarkable. Bowie knew. In Rolling Stone in 1999 he said of Fanny: “They were extraordinary: They wrote everything, they played like motherfuckers, they were just colossal and wonderful.” Alice de Buhr was the drummer in the band’s original lineup.
