That rising temperatures can drive people to crazy behavior is a well-known fact. And in Spike Lee’s groundbreaking 1989 movie Do the Right Thing about one seriously sweltering summer in Brooklyn’s Bed-Stuy neighborhood, things definitely get, er, heated. For our amuse bouche recipe based on the film, we wanted an Italian influence since Sal’s pizzeria plays such a pivotal role, and for it to be something refreshing enough to offer a bit of respite on the stickiest days. And we couldn’t resist throwing in one of our favorite old pantry spices as an homage to the director himself. The result: Spike Magic Tomato Granita.
