I admit, little about David Lynch’s bizarre road trip love story Wild at Heart makes me hungry. In fact, most of the twisted romp usually manages to have the exact opposite effect on the palate—one look at Willem Dafoe’s demented mug complete with gummy smile could turn even the strongest stomachs. So to pay homage to Lynch’s film with food in our latest issue of Gather we followed Lula’s famous declaration—“The whole world’s wild at heart and weird on top”—pairing a skewer of grilled chicken hearts with a mess of blood-red slaw. Here, one of the movie’s many clips (starring the inimitable Diane Ladd at her very craziest) that inspired our crimson-colored recipe choice.
