Picture it: a villa in the Tuscan countryside circa 1978. It’s the peak of summer and the air is heavy, hazy from the heat and thick with the syrupy scent of grape must. Gio and Francesca spend most days lazing around the carved stone saltwater pool reading Calvino paperbacks faded by the persistent sun, breaking only to nap when they’re tired and eat when they’re hungry at the rickety table under the shade of an olive tree, determined as they are to adhere to no particular schedule. Can you picture it? We did. That’s what we were envisioning when we set about imagining a mini collection of trompe l’oeil style dinnerware for West Elm. Created in collaboration with the dream team of photographer Grant Cornett, food stylist Maggie Ruggiero, and prop stylist Noemi Bonazzi, the photo-realistic desert plates, tray, pitcher, and platter will bring a bit of our ’70s Italian summer fantasies to your table.
