Desert Dweller Cocktail

Cocktails & Beverages from Issue 5 – Spring / Summer 2014 – Caravan

Aromatic sage liqueur and prickly-pear preserves give this mezcal refresher by Pamela and Christina Dylag, of Las Vegas’s Velveteen Rabbit, a desert feel.

makes 1 cocktail (pictured right)




  • 1 oz (2 Tbsp) Alipus mezcal
  • ½ oz (1 Tbsp) Art in the Age Sage liqueur
  • ¾ oz (1 ½ Tbsp) fresh lime juice
  • ½ oz (1 Tbsp) simple syrup*
  • 1 tsp prickly-pear jelly or preserves
  • sage leaf for garnish

    Place all ingredients into a shaker glass filled with ice. Double strain into a chilled coupe glass and garnish with a sage leaf. (Slap the leaf to release the aromatics).

    Simple syrup: Bring equal parts water and sugar to a simmer, stirring to dissolve sugar, then cool and chill.
