The Gates of Paradise Cocktail

Cocktails & Beverages from Issue 10 – Winter 2017 – Sin

Eden Laurin, managing partner of Chicago’s elegant Violet Hour, conjured up this cocktail for the greedy imbiber who wants a taste of spring in the dead of winter.

makes 1 cocktail

  • 1 blackberry
  • 2 oz Żubrówka (Bison grass vodka)
  • ¾ oz lemon juice
  • oz ginger syrup*​ (or all natural spicy ginger beer)
  • 1 oz apple cider
  • 1 dash of Angostura bitters​
  • lemon wheels and blackberries for garnishing

  • Muddle a blackberry in a cocktail shaker. Add remaining ingredients and ice. Shake then strain into an ice-filled coupe. Garnish with a lemon wheel and a blackberry.

  • *Ginger syrup: Juice fresh ginger (in a juicer or with a garlic press and cheesecloth), let the juice sit for 2 hours, strain (to remove the starches), add equal parts refined sugar.
