Magic Slipper Cocktail

Dorothy’s sequined ruby slippers were silver in Baum’s book, but screenwriter Noel Langley made them fire-engine red to pop against the yellow bricks. Our low ABV cocktail (Dorothy is dizzy enough being displaced from home) by Natasha David of New York’s Nitecap gets its sparkle from a touch of pink luster dust.

makes 1 cocktail

  • 1 oz Lillet Rouge
  • ¾ oz lemon juice
  • ½ oz Maurin Quina
  • ½ oz cinnamon syrup*
  • a splash of Lambrusco
  • sprinkle of Luster Dust

  • Shake 1 oz Lillet Rouge, ¾ oz lemon juice, ½ oz Maurin Quina, ½ oz cinnamon syrup* in a shaker with ice for 10-15 seconds. Strain into a wine glass with ice. Top with a splash of Lambrusco and a sprinkle of Luster Dust and give a quick stir.

  • *Cinnamon Syrup: Combine 2 cups water with 2 cups sugar in a pot over medium heat. Whisk until sugar has dissolved. Add 5 cinnamon sticks and simmer 10 minutes. Cool, and then discard sticks.
