Zen and the art of cocktail sustenance.Gather Journal Moment of Zen cocktail
We can always leave it to Larry David to decode the minutiae of annoying human behavior for our collective comic relief. One habit that proved so annoying to David that he felt the need to explore it on both Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm was making exaggerated sounds while drinking: Elaine’s former roommate is a post-sip lip-smacker, while Jeff’s short-fused wife Susie adds a loud “ahh” after imbibing. But, be warned, vocal contentment may follow the consumption of this jasmine tea-laced sipper by Will Talbot at Top of the Standard; a sizzled sage leaf acts as crunchy garnish cum mini-amuse.

Shake and strain all ingrdients into a coupe glass, and garnish with fried sage leaf**.
*Jasmine Tea Syrup: Bring 1 cup of sugar and 1 cup of water to a simmer in a saucepan stirring to dissolve. Remove from heat and stir in 2 Tbsp loose leaf jasmine tea. Steep 10 minutes. Strain, cool to room temperature, then chill.
**Fried sage leaves: Heat oil in a small skillet over medium-high heat until hot. Fry sage leaves one at a time until crisp, about 2–3 seconds.
